My story

I will soon be 60, and I have been taking photographs for more than 40 years. It all started with a film camera, a roll of film and the wonder of watching an image appear in the developer tray.

Today my studio is in downtown Québec City. And at home I have set up a darkroom with several enlargers, where I still develop and print my films by hand.

I love to share: I give private lessons — from camera settings to darkroom printing — and I organise photo outings, in the city and in nature.

A brief history of photography

Almost two centuries of inventions, from Niépce's pewter plate to the digital sensor.

1826–1827Nicéphore Niépce captures the oldest surviving photograph, “View from the Window at Le Gras”, after hours of exposure on a pewter plate.
1839Louis Daguerre's daguerreotype is presented in Paris: photography is made public.
1841William Henry Fox Talbot patents the calotype: the negative finally allows several prints from one image.
1851Frederick Scott Archer's wet collodion process brings images of great detail.
1888George Eastman launches the Kodak: “You press the button, we do the rest.” Photography becomes popular.
1925The Leica I popularises 35 mm film: the camera fits in a pocket, and modern photojournalism is born.
1935Kodak releases Kodachrome, the legendary colour film.
1948Birth of the Polaroid and of the first Hasselblad: the instant picture and Swedish medium format.
1969Hasselblad cameras photograph the first steps of man on the Moon.
1975Steven Sasson, a Kodak engineer, builds the first digital camera.
TodayDigital dominates, but film is making a real comeback: grain, slowness and hand-made prints are back in fashion.
